Examples worth comparing

These are examples to make the guide more concrete — use the specs and notes above to decide what fits your needs.

Butt plug sizing is easier to understand when you ignore marketing labels and compare actual measurements. “Small,” “medium” and “large” are not consistent between brands.

Diameter is one of the most useful numbers

The widest insertable diameter gives a clearer sense of fullness than total product length. Compare measurements in the same unit and do not assume a familiar label means the same dimensions across products.

Insertable length is different from total length

Total length may include the neck and base. Insertable length tells you how much of the product is intended to enter the body.

Neck and taper affect comfort

A gradual taper can make insertion easier, while the neck determines how the product sits once inserted. The transition between widest point, neck and base is worth comparing.

A flared base is essential

Products intended for anal insertion need a base or retrieval design that prevents the entire item from entering the rectum. Do not use insertable objects without a purpose-built flared base or other secure stop.

Start conservatively

If you are new to anal toys, smaller dimensions and gradual shapes are usually easier to evaluate than jumping to a product labeled “advanced.” Use plenty of compatible lubricant, stop with pain or numbness, and never force insertion.

Size labels are shorthand. Measurements and base design are what let you make a meaningful comparison.
